Equinox executive chairman Harvey Spevak and former Fox 5 “Good Day New York” co-anchor Bianca Peters are officially engaged after four years of dating. Spevak orchestrated an elaborate weekend getaway to El Paso, Texas, catching Peters completely by surprise with an evening featuring a mariachi band, an emotional string quartet tribute, and late-night Taco Bell.

The couple touched down in the desert city where Peters’ extended family and her only living grandparent reside. Within ten minutes of stepping inside Amalur Kitchen & Bar, the fitness executive dropped to one knee before a room full of loved ones, including Bilt founder Ankur Jain and Erika Hammond.

As Spevak popped the question, the Four Bridges String Quartet performed “Cowboy Take Me Away” by The Chicks—a song selected specifically to honor Peters’ late grandmother, Irene Castillo.

The emotional impact was immediate.

“It was freakin’ water works the whole time. He got down on one knee, asked me the question — I kept crying and saying, ‘I’m sorry.’ And he had to follow up!”

A Desert Setup Crafted Around Family Heritage

While lavish celebrity proposals often lean on private islands or predictable European backdrops, Spevak deliberately centered the milestone on Peters’ heritage. She admitted that a spontaneous trip to the desert raised immediate suspicions because their visits typically require a major family milestone.

“We wouldn’t just go for no reason,” Peters explained. Sensing an impending life change, she quickly packed several white outfits, including the designer L’Agence dress from Bergdorf Goodman she wore when receiving her ring.

Spevak also leaned into local culture, swapping out his trademark street sneakers for cowboy boots. To pull off the event, he tapped local, female-led vendors, including Sunnyside Events, floral designer Muñoz Taller de Diseño, and the all-female mariachi ensemble Mariachi Femenil Flores Mexicanas.

Honoring Late Grandmother Irene

The El Paso setting held profound meaning beyond its scenic backdrop. Peters’ grandmother passed away three years ago and had only spoken with Spevak once over FaceTime.

During that single conversation, her grandmother delivered an unforgettable ultimatum: “No ring, no Bianca.”

Spevak also took time to bridge the linguistic divide during his proposal speech.

“Harvey gave a full speech in Spanish, and that man does not speak a word of Spanish. He obviously read it from his phone. It was the funniest accent ever.”

From Virtual Broadcast to the Hamptons

The couple’s connection began during the pandemic when Peters and her former Fox 5 colleague Rosanna Scotto interviewed Spevak via satellite. Because of broadcast logistics, Peters and Scotto could see Spevak, but he could not see them.

Scotto quickly encouraged the connection, planting the initial seed. The duo subsequently met in person at a gathering in the Hamptons, where their four-year romance took off.

“She’s an incredibly special person and I look forward to building our future together,” Spevak said.

The night concluded at Kala BajaMed with DJ La Flaquita Anali on the turntables. Despite Spevak’s reputation as a high-end luxury fitness executive, he arranged a late-night Taco Bell run to satisfy Peters’ favorite craving.

Wedding planning is now underway, and Peters already has a vibrant vision for their ceremony.

“I’d like to get married in Mexico with more mariachis and lots of tequila!” she confirmed.

✨ From satellite TV interviews to a full-blown desert celebration, this romance proves that timing and thoughtful family gestures mean everything.

🌮 Balancing high-end luxury wellness with late-night fast-food cravings might just be the ultimate relationship blueprint.
