Neil Patrick Harris completely disguised himself under heavy face prosthetics, a bald cap, and grotesque fangs to portray the silent-era monster Nosferatu. The terrifying look anchored an elaborate vampire photoshoot alongside his husband, David Burtka, and their teenage twins.

For over a decade, the Harris-Burtka household has turned the holiday into high art. Their latest outing raised the bar even higher, turning classic cinematic horror into a full family production.

The transformation was so extreme that fans scrolling past the photos took double takes before realizing who was actually hiding under the makeup.

Inside the Dramatic Nosferatu Transformation

Harris bypassed conventional makeup kits to replicate Count Orlok from the 1922 German expressionist horror film Nosferatu. His setup required a seamless bald cap, pointed ears, exaggerated arched eyebrows, and pale, blue-toned skin paint.

A set of distorted false teeth and an ankle-length black cloak completed the monstrous silhouette. The result looked ripped straight out of early cinema archives rather than a celebrity wardrobe closet.

“This year, we’re raising the stakes and craving a Halloween that doesn’t suck,” Harris joked when debuting the ensemble.

The intricate design proves that professional character prosthetics can outshine standard Hollywood glam. The look relied on textured latex blending rather than digital trickery to create the hollowed, century-old ghoul.

The Complete Family Vampire Lineup

While Harris took inspiration from the silent era, husband David Burtka chose an entirely different generation of horror lore. Burtka tackled Gary Oldman‘s iconic version of the titular villain from Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Burtka matched the look with an imposing white bouffant wig, ghostly blue-tinted makeup, razor-sharp elongated fingernails, and an ornate crimson cloak.

Their twins, Gideon and Harper, stepped into celebrated cult classics. Instead of doing a uniform group look, each family member channeled a different corner of the genre.

  • Gideon recreated David, the stylish rebel vampire originally played by Kiefer Sutherland in 1987’s The Lost Boys.
  • Harper flipped the script on the bloodsuckers, dressing up as the legendary heroine Buffy Summers from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

A Broadway Stage as the Backdrop

Setting matters just as much as wardrobe for theatrical shoots. The family staged the photos directly on the set of the Broadway musical adaptation of The Lost Boys at the Palace Theatre.

The location was not a coincidence. Harris serves as an investor and co-producer on the stage musical, granting the family full access to the moody theatrical sets.

“I chose vampires as our theme, and the Palace Theater home of the @lostboysmusical was a location to die for… It’s bloody brilliant!” Burtka shared. “We are so grateful that our kids still want to play.”

A Double Feature for the Spooky Season

A common misconception about celebrity holiday dress-up is that stars simply hire stylists for a single party snap. In contrast, Harris and Burtka treat the entire season as an ongoing creative project that has spanned more than a decade.

The vampire shoot was not their only stop. The couple delivered a second coordinated ensemble, dressing up as the unsettling Grady twins from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.

The couple, who married in 2014 after welcoming their twins via surrogacy in 2010, have cemented their status as Hollywood’s most dedicated costume masters.

With their children now entering their teenage years, keeping the tradition alive remains a massive victory for the parents.

✨ The bar for family coordination has clearly been raised once again.
