Goldie Hawn has officially been named the recipient of The Paley Honors Award, the highest accolade bestowed by the Paley Center for Media. The milestone recognizes both her six-decade career in film and television and her transformative work with children’s mental fitness through her foundation.

The veteran actress and producer expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, acknowledging both the audiences who embraced her comedic work and the educational initiatives that now define her legacy.

“My career has been a joyful journey filled with wonderful stories, generous collaborators, and audiences who have welcomed me into their lives. I’m grateful for every opportunity to create, to make people laugh, and to keep learning along the way.”

The honor shines an overdue spotlight on Hawn’s dual impact across American culture. While millions recognize her iconic roles, her most enduring legacy is taking shape inside elementary school classrooms nationwide.

A Double Triumph at the Paley Center Gala

Hawn will formally receive the honor during the Paley Center’s annual Gala Benefiting the Paley Center’s Education Programs on December 3. She shares this season’s honors with veteran television producer and writer Greg Berlanti, who helped launch landmark series including Dawson’s Creek, Brothers & Sisters, and Arrow.

Paley Center leadership emphasized that Hawn’s lasting footprint extends well beyond her infectious screen charm.

“Goldie Hawn is a beloved trailblazer whose timeless charm and exceptional talent have earned her a place as one of the most influential and respected figures in entertainment,” said Maureen J. Reidy, President and CEO of The Paley Center for Media.

Inside MindUP: The Science-Driven Mission Supported by Kurt Russell

In 2003, Hawn shifted significant focus toward philanthropy by founding the Hawn Foundation. The core of this effort is MindUP, a specialized program designed to help children understand brain function, regulate emotions, and improve focus.

The initiative remains a true family collaboration. Hawn serves as chair, while her daughter, actress Kate Hudson, sits on the board. Hawn’s longtime partner Kurt Russell, with whom she has shared a life since Valentine’s Day 1983, actively raises funds through screenings and special fan experiences.

“The reason I really like this cause is because it’s science-based,” Kurt Russell explained. “What Goldie wanted to do was be able to have children understand how their mind is working.”

That classroom impact was visible during Hawn’s visit to public elementary school PS133Q in Queens, New York. There, she met directly with teachers, administrators, and students using MindUP daily to build emotional resilience and empathy.

Busting the Myth of the “Celebrity Vanity Project”

A widespread assumption in entertainment culture is that celebrity non-profits are merely superficial, hands-off branding ventures. The operational reality behind MindUP contradicts that stereotype entirely.

Rather than simply writing checks or lending her likeness, Hawn spent more than two decades integrating neurological research into structured classroom curricula. The program targets the mechanics of childhood stress and executive brain function, offering practical tools directly to educators.

Six Decades of Groundbreaking Entertainment

Hawn launched her screen journey in 1968, rapidly establishing herself as a powerhouse talent. By 1969, she captured an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Cactus Flower.

In 1980, she broke creative ground by executive producing and starring in the box-office hit Private Benjamin, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. That same year, she partnered with Liza Minnelli for the television special Goldie and Liza Together, landing four Emmy nominations.

Her creative and personal partnership with Russell remains one of the entertainment industry’s most enduring relationships. Together, they parent three working actors—Kate Hudson, Oliver Hudson, and Wyatt Russell—and share four children and eight grandchildren.

The duo paired on screen for the 1987 romantic comedy favorite Overboard, and later teamed up again as Santa and Mrs. Claus in Netflix’s hit franchise The Christmas Chronicles and its sequel.
