Inside Jenna Dewan and Steve Kazee’s Wild Halloween Tradition: Why Their Kids Get Free Rein at HomeGoods Every Year

Jenna Dewan turns every October into an unrestrained spooky season marathon. Rather than curating a pristine, minimalist holiday setup, the actress and fiancé Steve Kazee hand total creative control straight over to their children.

The annual ritual centers on a storewide free-for-all where shopping carts are loaded to the brim with whatever eerie items catch the kids’ attention. The end result transforms both the interior and exterior of their home into a full-scale haunted showcase.

Dewan shared the details behind the household tradition during week 7 of season 35 of Dancing with the Stars, where she is currently competing.

The Annual HomeGoods Decorating Spree

For Dewan, 45, and Kazee, 51, holiday prep begins by walking through the retail aisles with their children: daughter Everly, 13, whom Dewan shares with ex-husband Channing Tatum, alongside son Callum, 6, and daughter Rhiannon, 2.

“We go to HomeGoods, and we let the kids fill up their basket with whatever they want to decorate the house with.”

The motivation behind the retail run comes directly from Everly’s deep enthusiasm for seasonal transformations.

“Because if you ask Evie, her favorite thing about holidays is decorating the house,” Dewan explained. “It’s like a real thing. So this year we went and we decorated the inside and the outside completely. We are more Halloween than we’ve ever been this year.”

Dewan added an enthusiastic shout-out to the discount home-decor chain for anchoring the family’s annual transformation.

Three Months of Prep for Custom Anime Costumes

While many families pick up ready-to-wear costumes off retail shelves days before trick-or-treating, the Dewan-Kazee household runs on an entirely different timeline.

Everly routinely skips standard outfits in favor of rare, obscure characters from niche animated series.

“She doesn’t pick a costume that I can just go buy at a store,” the Step Up star admitted. “She’s like, ‘I want to be the anime character from this TV show’ that no one else has ever watched, that there’s zero costumes on the internet for.”

That means Dewan spends months sourcing individual fabrics and specialized accessories from independent creators online.

“I’m on Etsy three months ahead of time trying to find bits and pieces that all come together to be this one anime character. But that’s been fun, but it’s every year, so I’m used to it with her.”

A Look Inside the Haunted Setup

The festive atmosphere is not just limited to small accent pieces. Kazee previously offered a tour of the family’s setup on TikTok when he hosted an elaborate party for Everly’s 10th birthday.

The display featured purple and orange twinkle lights woven through outdoor bushes, dense cobwebs stretching across light fixtures and ceilings, and a life-sized skeleton stationed right at the piano.

Committing to the Bit: The Coordinated Family Looks

The parents dive into dressing up just as enthusiastically as the kids. When Callum donned a bright green frog suit, Dewan paired up as a matching fly, complete with oversized round glasses and antenna headwear.

Little Rhiannon dressed as fluffy cotton candy with layers of pink and purple ruffled tulle. Meanwhile, Kazee leaned into his dependable favorite by slipping back into the colorful piñata suit he first debuted in 2022.

Summarizing the entire family’s seasonal philosophy on social media, Dewan put it simply: “We committed.”
