Kevin Federline Sued for Over $117,000 in Unpaid Bank Debt as Child Support Checks Dry Up
Kevin Federline is facing a major legal battle over his personal finances after racking up at least $117,704 in unpaid balances with City National Bank. The filing comes on the heels of the end of his multi-decade child support arrangement with pop icon Britney Spears.
Court documents reveal that the 48-year-old former backup dancer was hit with the lawsuit across three separate accounts: an unpaid credit card tab, an overdue personal line of credit, and a delinquent overdraft line. The timing of the agreement lines up directly with the end of his monthly support checks.
Federline executed the formal banking agreement in late November 2024. That exact window coincided with Spears delivering her very last court-ordered child support payment into his account.

Inside the Six-Figure Bank Lawsuit
City National Bank is demanding immediate repayment of the principal along with aggressive interest charges across every account. The breakdown spans high-interest consumer credit as well as revolving personal lines.
According to the court filing, Federline was granted until August 2026 to settle the credit card balance. Other deadlines passed far earlier.
His personal overdraft line matured first, coming due in April, followed by the personal line of credit in June. The lender is now pursuing the entire outstanding balance alongside steep annual interest penalties.

The Breakdown of Debt and Interest Penalties
The bank is not merely seeking the outstanding $117,704 principal. The complaint specifies high accrued interest rates tied to each individual financial instrument.
| Account Type | Accrued Interest Rate |
|---|---|
| Credit Card | 20.5% |
| Overdraft Line | 18.0% |
| Personal Line of Credit | 7.5% |
These tiered interest rates mean the total liability will continue climbing rapidly until the matter is resolved in court or settled through negotiation.
The End of a Lucrative Child Support Era
For nearly two decades, Federline received massive monthly stipends following his 2007 divorce from Spears. The couple originally met in early 2004, engaged within months, and married in September of that year before Spears filed for divorce in November 2006.
While raising their two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, in Hawaii, Federline received $40,000 per month in direct child support payments. When Sean Preston turned 18, the court trimmed those payments to $20,000 each month.
The financial lifeline stopped permanently once Jayden James graduated from high school, cutting off Federline’s primary documented income stream.

Debunking the ‘Child Support Wealth’ Myth
A widespread assumption among celebrity followers is that receiving tens of thousands in monthly support creates permanent generational wealth. Federline himself offered a direct rebuttal to that assumption in his memoir, You Thought You Knew.
“The money was gone almost as soon as it came in,” he claimed in the book.
Federline maintained that funding private security and preserving the lifestyle the boys experienced while living with Spears consistently consumed the entirety of the monthly transfers.
According to his account, household and operational overhead regularly exceeded the baseline $40,000 monthly allotment. That left virtually no cash reserve once the legal support obligations expired.
