Michael Jackson’s Sons Share What They Secretly Hope Happens to Neverland Ranch—and Owner Ron Burkle Responds

Michael Jackson’s sons, Prince Jackson and Bigi Jackson, want their late father’s iconic Neverland Ranch restored to its original humanitarian mission. Rather than seeing the 2,700-acre California property turn into a commercial tourist draw, the brothers hope the gates will open once again to bring comfort and joy to sick and underprivileged children.

The brothers do not hold ownership or operational control of the estate today. Billionaire investor Ron Burkle acquired the Los Olivos ranch in 2020 for roughly $22 million, and his team has now weighed in on where the estate’s future actually lies.

A Family Wish: Preserving the King of Pop’s True Intentions

For Prince, 29, and Bigi, the estate remains deeply intertwined with their childhood memories. Those early experiences shaped their shared conviction that the property should reflect their father’s philanthropic vision.

“They’d love to see the property preserved and used in a way that honors what Michael originally wanted it to be,” an insider close to the Jackson family revealed.

Prince has channeled that philosophy directly into his own adult life. While attending Loyola Marymount University in 2016, he co-founded the Heal Los Angeles Foundation to assist youth and families throughout underserved Los Angeles neighborhoods.

His brother Bigi, formerly known as Blanket, shares the sentiment while maintaining a far lower public profile.

“Prince really appreciates the history of Neverland and would love to see it have a charitable purpose again, especially when it comes to helping sick and underprivileged children,” the insider added.

Who Controls Neverland Ranch Today?

Michael Jackson purchased the vast estate in 1988, drawing inspiration from Peter Pan to build a wonderland featuring a private amusement park, railroad station, movie theater, and zoo. After his passing in June 2009 at age 50, the property eventually hit the market in 2015 for $100 million before seeing substantial reductions.

Burkle ultimately stepped in to purchase the grounds for approximately $22 million in 2020. A representative for Burkle confirmed that the investor remains deeply mindful of the Jackson family’s history on the land.

“While Neverland remains a private residence, Ron continues to welcome opportunities to host charitable events there,” Burkle’s spokesperson stated.

The spokesperson highlighted that Burkle regularly opens his private residences—including notable properties in Palm Springs, La Jolla, and Green Acres—to community fundraisers, keeping the door open for philanthropic initiatives at the ranch.

The Real Legacy: Dispelling the Theme Park Myth

A widespread assumption among pop culture fans is that Neverland Ranch was conceived merely as an eccentric personal playground. The documented operational history reveals a starkly different reality anchored in organized charity.

Era & Status Primary Operational Role
1988–2005 (Michael Jackson Ownership) Private sanctuary hosting civic organizations and ill children roughly three times a month.
2015–2020 (Open Real Estate Market) Private residential listing initially offered at $100 million before price adjustments.
2020–Present (Ron Burkle Ownership) Private estate purchased for ~$22 million, hosting Jackson family visits and select charity events.

During Jackson’s residency, charitable and civic groups visited the grounds multiple times each month. In 1993, the singer welcomed nine Make-A-Wish Foundation families for an entire afternoon featuring carnival rides, an arcade, a screening of “Aladdin,” and a personal tour.

In September 2003, the property served as the backdrop for a massive benefit supporting both Make-A-Wish and an organization aiding impoverished children in Brazil. By December 2004, Jackson welcomed 200 children for a holiday celebration complete with animals, treats, and a surprise appearance alongside Santa Claus.

Continuing the Jackson Humanitarian Mission

Prince Jackson’s focus remains anchored in active philanthropy, carrying forward his father’s philosophy through the Heal Los Angeles Foundation:

  • Public Education Partnerships: Sponsoring targeted academic programs at Loreto Elementary School in northeast Los Angeles.
  • Family Wellness Initiatives: Organizing structured outreach and developmental support for underserved urban communities.
  • Seasonal Relief Drives: Coordinating annual food and toy distribution drives for vulnerable local households.

While Neverland remains under private ownership rather than public administration, the alignment between Jackson’s heirs and Burkle points to a shared respect for its philanthropic past.

✨ The dream of seeing Neverland Ranch host children in need again remains very much alive for the family.

📱 Prince and Bigi’s low-key, dignified approach proves they value purpose far above commercial spectacle.
