Kylie Kelce Reveals Why Guests Visiting Her Home Should Never Bring Toys or Gifts for Her Four Daughters

Kylie Kelce has an open-door policy when family and friends visit, but she wants guests to leave the boxed toys and flashy presents behind. The mother of four insists that sitting on the floor to read a picture book aloud wins over her daughters far faster than any wrapped gift ever could.

Speaking on her podcast, Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce, the 34-year-old mom explained that undivided attention creates an immediate bond with her young household. While well-meaning relatives often arrive with trinkets in hand, Kelce explained that sharing a story provides genuine connection and lasting impact.

Her guest, Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark, immediately took notes—and made a personal promise to put the rule into action on her next visit.

The Gift-Free House Rule That Wins Over Kids Instantly

Kelce shares four daughters—Wyatt, 7, Elliotte, 5, Bennett, 3, and baby Finnley, 1—with her husband, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce. Managing a busy home with four young children means clutter piles up quickly, making shared experiences far more valuable than physical items.

“I know one way to my girls’ hearts, and really kids, I always tell people you don’t need to bring gifts when you come to our house,” Kelce shared on the podcast. “If you come in, you sit down, you offer to read our girls a book, they will be like forever…”

The conversation quickly prompted Clark to jump in with an immediate offer. “All right, I’ll come read them this book,” the 24-year-old WNBA star volunteered.

For Kelce, the habit is not just about keeping physical clutter out of the living room. It changes the entire social dynamic between visiting adults and young children.

“Like genuinely, we have obviously family [that] will come and they’ll bring this and they’ll bring that,” Kelce noted. “But if when you come and you sit down, you read a book, I think it’s one of the best ways to connect with kids.”

Why Reading Aloud Outperforms Physical Toys

Many adults assume that arriving with a colorful toy is the fastest way to get on a child’s good side. In reality, handing over an object often leads to brief excitement followed by independent play, leaving little room for actual conversation.

Reading aloud flips that script entirely. It turns guests into active participants, opening the door for curious back-and-forth dialogue.

Building Curiosity Through Interactive Reading

Kelce emphasized that storytime gives young children “the opportunity to ask questions and learn.” Sitting shoulder-to-shoulder over an open page allows kids to process ideas at their own pace without screen distractions.

The guest approach in the Kelce household highlights how small shifts in intentional time can replace traditional social gift-giving expectations.

Caitlin Clark’s Off-Court Mission for Young Readers

The conversation centered around Clark’s new children’s release, EXTRAordinary! A Little EXTRA to Reach BIG Dreams, published through Penguin Random House with illustrations by Adriana Predoi. Kelce pointed to the title as a prime example of reading material that actively engages developing minds.

Writing for children allowed the basketball phenom to tap into her own memories. Clark credited family traditions with shaping her lifelong passion for literature.

“As a young kid, I grew up always receiving a book on Christmas Eve from my mom,” Clark shared. “And that kind of started my joy of reading.”

Clark pointed out that the creative process helped channel her childhood mindset toward empowering young fans. “I feel like a lot of the creativity and childlike spirit that I still have as I’m 24 have come to life in this,” she explained, noting her drive to inspire youth both on and off the court.

💬 Setting household boundaries like this shows that genuine time spent together always leaves a stronger mark than any store-bought novelty.
